Robert Dennis Tennill

Robert "Denny' Tennill, 81, of Louisville, Kentucky, went home to the Lord on November 21, 2023, surrounded in love by his family.

Denny was born the second of 5 children to Elliott and Mary Lee Tennill, in Franklin County, Kentucky, in 1942. He graduated from Waddy High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1964, and was honorably discharged in 1970.

Denny met and married his soulmate, Laura Sue, in Shelbyville, Kentucky, in 1964. They moved to Louisville in 1965. He got a job after being discharged from the National Guard, and worked at Ford Motor Company for 30 years before retiring. He and Laura Sue had a daughter and son, then their life was complete. Denny was an extremely hard worker, dedicated, and determined to provide for his family and give them the life they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world and he was unendingly proud of his children and grandchildren. Denny put family first, always. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband.

He was a Deacon at Watterson Trail Church of Christ for 21 years and was always a faithful servant to the Lord, giving much of his free time to the church.

Denny loved camping. He and Laura spent many of their retirement years traveling around in their 5th wheel. He was proud to say he visited all 50 states, ending with cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. Other hobbies he enjoyed included watching NASCAR and UK Wildcats basketball, being an avid fan of both. Denny loved tinkering in his garage, going out with friends, taking drives along the backroads with Laura, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elliott and Mary Lee Tennill; and his brothers, Donnie and Eddie.

Denny is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Laura Sue; his son, Robert (Regina): and his three grandchildren, Shelby, Ella, and Amber; his daughter, Susan; and his step granddaughter, Ashley; his brother and sister, Randy and Rosemary; his cat,
Gus; along with many nieces and nephews. He will forever be in their hearts and missed.

A funeral service will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Watterson Trail Church of Christ, 9607 Watterson Trail, with Daniel Isenberg officiating.  Military rites will be conducted at the end of the service.  Friends may call on the family from 10AM until service time at the church.  Entombment will be private at Louisville Memorial Gardens Cemetery West.
