Mary Kirkness

Mary Bettie (White) Kirkness, 85, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023.  She was born on August 22, 1937, to the late William Taft and Mae (Ledford) White, in Manchester, Kentucky.

Mary graduated from Valley Station High School in 1956 and married the love of her life, Douglas Kirkness, on December 30, 1957 and they enjoyed 55 wonderful years of marriage together.  Growing up, Mary was always close to her sisters and they have shared a special and close bond their entire lives.  Mary was always happy and bubbly and invariably had a sunny disposition.  She had a fantastic sense of humor and was a hilarious joke teller.  She worked for Equifax and Dillard's.  Mary was an avid University of Kentucky fan, very avid! She was a true Louisvillian at heart, loving the Kentucky Derby each year.   Most of all, Mary was a loving and caring mom and grandmother, she always gave hugs and left no doubt that she loved you.  She will be missed by all that knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Douglas Kirkness; and her sisters, Kathleen Grollo and Lucy Isaacs.

Left to cherish the memories of Mary are her children, Jenny Caudill (Jerry) and Daniel Kirkness; her sister, Billie Jean Bigler; her grandchildren, Jenna Kirkness and Robert Caudill; her great granddaughter, Savannah Kirkness; along with her nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 1PM on  Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes West, 4400 Dixie Highway, with Michael Rhoads officiating.  Friends may call on the family from 11AM until service time at the funeral home.
