Lucille Garrett

Helen Lucille (Singleton) Garrett, of Louisville, Kentucky, took her last breath peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2024.  Ms. Lucy took her first breath on June 3, 1935...in between, she used every other breath to breathe blessings upon her family.  Breaths of protection, encouragement, support, grace, patience, peace, wisdom, and love.

Lucille was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert M. Singleton; her beloved second husband, Robert Garrett; her brother, John Petry; and her sisters, Katherine Spiva and Dean Sumner.

She is survived by her precious children, Janet Dukes (Steve), Robert Singleton, Jr. (Trudy), and Paul Singleton (Donna); her step-children, Kenneth Garrett (Sandy), Janet Walker, and Mike Garrett (Leah); her grandchildren, Alicia Atchley (Chris), Stephanie Hall, Adrienne Morton (Donnie), Jacob Dukes, Robby Singleton, Aaron Singleton (Amanda), Tiffany Leyendecker (CJ), Sara Martin (Justin), Whitney Garrett, Eric Walker, Amy Hanes (Steven), and Casey Walker; her 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Our Momma was an overcomer, a warrior and a peacemaker.  She was strong, smart and sometimes sassy!  She gave her all in everything she did.  She was a marvelous cook and sweet songbird.  She breathed into us the ethic of hard work and extending forgiveness.

Our Granny was fun and feisty! She let us craft, make messes, gave us the glue gun and all the ice cream and chocolate syrup.  She laid with us until we fell asleep and denied that she snored.  She breathed unconditional love into us.

The margins of her Bible were filled with notes and this is the greatest gift she gave us...she breathed into us the love of Jesus and pointed to Him by living life with a servant's heart.  Because she lived her life to honor Him, we are confident in her eternity and rejoice at her homecoming.

She was beautiful inside and out with a heart of gold and perfect skin!  We loved to hear her laugh, especially when Papaw was teasing her.  Unkind words rarely escaped her lips, but don't think we didn't catch a "sugarfoot" every now and again! Although she will be missed by her family until our last breaths, we know she is whole, healed and happy.

We will hold onto the legacy she has left and hope to breathe life into others as we await the day we will see her again.

Ms. Lucy's family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation and an abundance of gratitude to the nursing and care staff at The Villas of Guerin Woods.  To Lisa, Savannah, Jennifer, Kim, Donna, Tori, Ella, Lori, Bridget, Jan and Jessica...thank you for loving our Mom and Granny like she was your own.  Thank you for providing dignity, respect, humor and love to those who can't remember and are often forgotten.  We would also like to thank the team members at Southern IN Hospice for their compassion and kindness.
