James Carl Stinson

June 22, 1953 — April 18, 2023

Louisville

James Carl Stinson passed away in his home on April 18th, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky at the age of 69.

Born the youngest of eight children, Carl (as he was known by friends and family), was a man of great passion, creativity, and more than a few eccentricities. When he wasn’t enjoying a walk by the river, he could often be found working on an art project. Endlessly imaginative, he was always thinking of different things he could make, whether it be decorations, jewelry, or simple displays for his children’s toys.

Carl also loved the outdoors. He camped, he fished, and during the summer he loved to spend time in the water, whether it be on the beach or at a theme park. Never one to waste money, he once took advantage of his season pass with near-daily visits for the entire summer. His love of the outdoors led him to work on a steamboat. Carl worked for the Belle of Louisville for many years, eventually rising to captain, an accomplishment he carried with pride for the rest of his life.

He was also an avid follower of politics. Never afraid to speak his mind, you could always count on him for an opinion on what the government was doing wrong. He wanted the world to be better and knew that it could be.

Carl was a lover of comedy, often pulling pranks or making jokes with a mischievous energy that belied his age. He loved books and music, art and movies, and every experience life could offer him. He saw the beauty of life and, whether for better or worse, lived it to his fullest. Still gone too soon, he joins his parents Henry Stinson and Inez Minton, and six siblings.  His spirit will be carried on by his surviving sister Sue Henry, his children, River and Natalia Stinson, and every friend and family member he has left an irreplaceable mark on. He will be missed.
