Ian Porter Zoeller

Ian Porter Zoeller, 47, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family at Baptist East Hospital.

Ian was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 2, 1976. He was a beautiful, happy, charming and funny little boy who was always smiling. As a child, he loved Matchbox cars, playing with his cousins and riding his bicycle. That love for cars, community and the wind in your face stayed with him his whole life.

Ian’s adventurous spirit lead him to follow his favorite band, The Grateful Dead, all around the country in his Volkswagen bus during his teens, and sparked a life-long love for traveling all over. He loved the city of Louisville, driving his car or scooter, walking or Tarc-ing all throughout the city. He was frequently spotted on Bardstown Road in his custom made clothes, adorned with patches and hand-sewn designs - a small glimpse of his brilliant creativity.

Ian fought through so many battles he had no control over, but if you were lucky enough to catch him in conversation you quickly learned how smart, funny and entertaining he was. Ian’s contagious laugh, echoing throughout each and every family function he attended will be missed. He was a beloved and important member of his family, a family who will always feel his absence. There are no adequate words to describe the unique and brave person he was.

As an organ donor, Ian chose the gift of life. His decision will help save the lives of four other people.

Ian is survived by his proud parents, Linda and James Leslie “Skip”  Zoeller Jr.; his brother, James Leslie “Trey” (Carrie) Zoeller III; his sister, Olivia (Antonio) DeJesus; his granddaughters, Ava & Karma; his grandson, Kimber; niece, Cora; nephews Carson, Roman, and Rocco; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly and were proud to be his family. He is proceeded in death by his daughter, Kaela.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes West, 4400 Dixie Highway. Visitation is from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. ET with a funeral service beginning at noon. The celebration will continue at Highlands Bar & Grille at 2 p.m. To honor Ian’s vibrant and eclectic style, the family asks you to wear tie dye or colorful clothing and/or a bandana to the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made as a donation to Louisville Addiction Center or Southeast Christian Church Counseling Center.
