Charlotte Thelma Barnett

Charlotte Thelma Barnett, 88, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on January 7, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky.  She was born on February 3, 1935, to the late Silas Baker, and Rebecca and Ryburn Doyle, in McAffe, Kentucky.

Charlotte was a 1953 graduate of Shelby County High School.  She married her late husband, Harold, in 1952 and they began their life together.  Charlotte worked at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company and was promoted as the first female journeyman machinist until they relocated out of Kentucky, and then she was hired by CSX Railroad as a machinist journeyman, where she was awarded employee of the year for her work ethic in the Hagan Shack.

Charlotte loved basketball and baseball.  She would cheer for both UofL and UK teams enthusiastically.  She loved the Cincinnati Reds and watched every game faithfully.  She enjoyed cooking and sharing that talent and recipes with her daughters and grandchildren.  Charlotte was a caregiver, and when she did not have children in her home, she took care of many neighbors and friends during their ailments.  She loved having her family and friends over and sitting around the table, not just for dinner, but to play hours and hours of card games.  She could add up scores quicker than a calculator.  Charlotte always had a dachshund dog with her, and raised many, the favorite of the family being Mighty Mouse.

Charlotte was a long time and active member of Hillsdale Baptist Church.  She loved the Lord, and enjoyed bringing her family and friends to enjoy the service with her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Barnett; her sister, Mary Jane Peak; her brothers, Roy and Pete Baker; and her son-in-law, Jack Clark.

Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of love, basketball, card games and dachshunds.  She is survived by her children, Linda Jackson (Dave), Becky Swann (Marvin), Chuck Barnett (Barbara), David Barnett, and Peggy Clark; her brother, Max James Doyle (Deanna); her sister-in-law, Dorothy Baker; her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; family friend, Donnie Jones; along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Charlotte Thelma Barnett will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and sister.  Her kindness, talents, and mashed potatoes will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service to honor Charlotte's life will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Homes West, 4400 Dixie Highway, at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with Tim Harris officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.  Charlotte will be laid to rest beside Harold at Louisville Memorial Gardens Cemetery West following the service.
