Carissa (Cari) Lynn Fess Harden

February 2, 1971 - June 13, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Carissa. Carissa's life touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a proud Marine veteran, a passionate hiker, and an unwavering animal lover. Her presence brought joy, compassion, and a selflessness that inspired those around her.

Carissa's dedication to serving her country was evident in her service as a Marine. She stood for what she believed in, and her fellow servicemen and servicewomen held her in high regard. Carissa recently graduated with honors from Sullivan University with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.

Carissa found true solace and adventure in nature's embrace. As a passionate hiker, she trekked through rugged terrain on the Appalachian Trail, seeking the serenity provided by the great outdoors.

Perhaps her greatest love was for her four-legged companions, as she had an innate ability to connect with animals on a profound level. Her heart was an open door to every animal, and she welcomed them with an abundance of love and care, most recently her deceased, Mia and Daisy, and her adored dogs, sweet Macy and soul=sister Ellie.

Carissa is survived by her mother, Liz Essen; her brothers, Alex and Evan Essen; her nephews, Shawn and Nikolas Essen; and a multitude of family members, friends and fellow Marines.

She is preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Gus and Lois Neel; great aunts, Libby and Weasie Dowell; and great-grandmother, Rose Marguerite Dowell.

As we mourn Carissa's untimely departure, we find solace in the memories she left behind. Carissa's presence was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Carissa's Life will be held at the Club at Paramont Estates: 11720 Paramont Way Prospect, KY 40059, on Sunday, June 25, from 1:00 - 5:00PM.
