Ramon Zanartu

July 17, 1970 — August 1, 2021

Louisville

Ramon Zanartu was born in Santiago, Chile on July 17th 1970.   He was raised in Bogota, Colombia and Louisville, Kentucky.  He was the son of Ramon Zanartu Covarrubias and Lillie Arundel.  He  had a sister, Maria L. Holden, a brother in law, Brian K. Holden and their son, Alexander M. Holden.  He also had a brother, Miguel L. Zanartu, a sister in law, Silvia M. Zanartu and their daughters, Isabel M.  and Olivia R. Zanartu.

He was a true citizen of the world.  From early childhood, Ramon traveled with family to many parts of Colombia, Chile and the United States.    He spent summers in Chile where he spent time with his Chilean Family.  He made many friends quickly and was always surrounded by a troop of new friends wherever he landed.  He had a deep love of Bogota, Colombia and frequently talked about going back to see his childhood friends.   He loved the language, cuisine  and culture of Latin America. He also felt the deep pull of his roots in North America.  Due to a traumatic childhood accident he suffered greatly throughout his life.  He was always aware that life is full of pain and sadness and yet he loved deeply and unconditionally.  He was a witty and spontaneous person who shared his thoughts and feelings freely.

During the last few years of his life, he frequently talked about his nieces and nephew  and the high hopes he had for them.  He loved them dearly.   We loved his wit and intelligence and most of all his generosity.   His fine manners and gentle ways will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.   He had a natural talent for art and many of his drawings will be shared with family as reminders of who he was and what he left behind for all of us.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Ramon's honor to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, Indiana or St. Francis of Assisi Catholicj Church, Louisville, KY
