Norma Jean Steber

July 22, 1928 ~ December 31, 2020 (age 92)


In the early morning of New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2020, Norma Jean Steber,92, was reunited with her family in heaven.

Norma, the baby daughter of Louis K. Steber and Margaret Ann (nee Lotz), was born July 22, 1928. A native of Louisville, she lived with her nephew in Portsmouth, VA for the last several years. Aunt Nornie, as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephew, was a tireless advocate for the humane treatment of all life and her love for her adopted rescue pets was a constant joy throughout her life.

Norma was a devoted volunteer for the American Red Cross in Louisville and in 2004 was named Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her years of tireless service and dedication. She also worked as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years.

She is predeceased by her parents and three siblings Margaret Louise, Louis Koch, Richard “Dickie” (Jaehnigen), and great-niece, Claire Dufton. Left to cherish her memory are nephew, Rev. Richard L. Hill, (Susan) of Portsmouth, VA; nieces Victoria Anne of Suwanee, GA, Mary "Jo" Dufton of Clarksville, IN and Lou Ann (Travis) Windhorst of Waddy, KY; great-niece Susan (Ted) Tweel of Hampton, VA; great-nephews James Michael Kiesler and David T. Smith III; two great-great nephews and five great-great nieces.

A graveside committal will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens, 4400 Dixie Highway, at 11:00 am Friday, January 8, 2021.

Expressions of love in Norma's memory may be made to the American Red Cross, the Kentucky Humane Society or a charity of choice.
