Norman Leon Hampton, 84, passed away on Thursday August 29, 2024. Norman was born on March 12, 1940. He attended Male High School and married Carol Sue (Prather) Hampton on May 27, 1961. Norman was a member of Carlisle Baptist Church but after his marriage joined St. James Evangelical and Reformed where he faithfully served in many roles. Norman always had a smile and never met a stranger. He worked for H.J. Scherich Cabinet Company and at various times was self employed owning a resturant, pie bakery and ice cream shop. His final business, with coowner Paul Cox, was a residential painting service. Norman also drove for Meals on Wheels and was a friend to everyone. He and Carol enjoyed traveling, both within and outside the U.S., but some of the best trips he would say were just getting in the car and driving. He will be remembered for his faith in Jesus Christ and his willingness to share that faith, a provider for his family, and giving a helping hand whenever and whatever the need. Norman was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Sue Hampton (Prather), his parents Joseph and Anna Mae Hampton, siblings Raymond, Joe Jr. Donald, Robert Earl, David, Edith Helen, and Rose Lee, brother-in-law Tom Prather and sister-in-law Nancy Prather. Left to Cherish his memory are children, Laura Hadorn (Jerry) and Mark Hampton (Angela), grandchildren Olivia Hadorn Meuris (Bentley) and Michael Hadorn, brother-in-law Richard “Dick” Prather (Deloris), sister-inlaw Mary Hampton and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank The Enclave of East Louisville, staff and residents, Hospurus of Lousiville, friends and family for all the care, comfort and friendships. And special neighbor Carol Miller for being a wonderful friend to both Carol and Norman. Norman’s celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, September 6 at St James Church 3535 Taylor Blvd. with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens West. His visitation will be on Thursday, September 5, from 1- 7pm at Louisville Memorial Gardens West, 4400 Dixie Hwy. In lier of flowers, donations may be sent to St James Church, St Patrick Catholic Church Youth Group Mission Trip, or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
