Mary Jo Trautwein, 61, passed away peacefully at her home, with her family surrounding her, on Tuesday, September 11, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. Born on December 27, 1962, to Lloyd and JoAnn Crady in Louisville, Mary Jo was a steadfast presence in her family and community.
A dedicated wife and mother, Mary Jo married the love of her life, Kenny, on February 14, 1986. Her family was her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them, especially as a beloved Mammaw. Her warmth and feisty spirit made her a memorable and cherished presence, always forthright and passionate in her interactions.
Mary Jo's professional life was equally remarkable. She devoted 41 years of service to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hospital, where her commitment and compassion were deeply felt by both colleagues and patients.
Her passions extended beyond her work and family. Mary Jo was an avid NASCAR fan, with Tony Stewart as her favorite driver. She loved quilting, embroidery, and fishing, and took great joy in preparing home-cooked meals from scratch, particularly during the holidays. Christmas held a special place in her heart, as did watching hummingbirds and savoring a cold Diet Mountain Dew.
Mary Jo’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and a zest for life. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary Jo is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and JoAnn Ellis Crady; brother, William Ray Crady; and a grandson, Connor Trautwein.
Left to cherish her memory, Mary Jo is survived by her loving husband, Charles “Kenny” Trautwein; 2 children, Kyle Trautwein (Ashley), and Stacey O’Connor (Jeremy); 4 grandchildren, Lily Trautwein, Addison O’Connor, Chase Trautwein, and JB O’Connor; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Mary Jo Trautwein will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 1 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home; and at 11 AM, prior to the funeral service. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Cemetery will follow the service.
