Irene Taylor Goodall, 102, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Nazareth Nursing Home in Louisville. She was born in Butler County, Kentucky to the late Vorus and Phamy (Ragland) Taylor on January 3, 1922. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Elvy E. Goodall; daughter, Joan (Donnie) Smith; sisters, Maude Klabor and Beulah Geary; grandsons, Kerry Goodall, Jr. and Matthew Goodall.
Irene is survived by 8 children, Phyllis (Jack) Williams, Barry (Diane) Goodall, Kerry (Terri) Goodall, Greg (Babs) Goodall, Rhonda Goodall, Paula Goodall, Iris Goodall and Betty (Uneena) Goodall, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Irene was especially fond of her caregivers, Dominique, Heather, Lilly, Brianna, Jeanine, Ayten and a special hospice volunteer, Rosemary, that became a dear friend to her.
Irene was a member of the Douglas Hills Church of Christ for over 56 years.
Irene grew up on a 200-acre farm in Butler County with no electricity or indoor plumbing. She was the oldest of 3 girls and helped her father with the farming, which included raising and tending the livestock and planting and harvesting the gardens. Irene had many careers over her lifetime that included baker at the A&P bakery, a nursing assistant at Arazmis nursing home, she and her partner Debbie Willoughby managed training/showing/selling American Saddlebred horses, The Lemonade Lady at Goodall’s Country Restaurant that her son Barry and daughter-in-law Diane owned, co-manager of T & R Antiques in Taylorsville that her daughter Joan Smith owned, she grew and painted gourdes that she exhibited at many local art fairs. She grew a multitude of unique and beautiful plants with her daughter Phyllis Williams, and they sold them at local farmers markets up until 2019. Irene’s favorite career was being the mother to 9 children. She managed to stay involved in the day-to-day activities of their lives up until a few weeks before her passing.
Irene was a gracious, kind and loving person to all who knew her and will be deeply missed by all.
