Emmalean "Emmy" DeWitt, 73, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Born on January 2, 1951, to Franklin and Donnie Pearl Kerr in Clarkson, Kentucky, Emmy lived a life filled with love and devotion to her family and community.

A cherished wife, mother, mamaw, and sister, Emmy's greatest joy came from her family. She and her beloved husband, Don, shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, filled with laughter and long, heartfelt conversations at the dinner table. Emmy was the heart of her home, and her nurturing spirit created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who gathered, especially during the holidays.

A dedicated member of Community General Baptist Church, Emmy's faith was central to her life. She found comfort and joy in her relationship with God and enjoyed sharing that love with others. In her free time, she loved cooking for her family, listening to old country and gospel music, and watching her favorite shows.

Emmy's kindness, warmth, and infectious smile touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Emmy is preceded in death by her parents, Franklin Kerr, and Donnie Pearl Powell Kerr; and several siblings.

Left to cherish her memory, Emmy is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Donald DeWitt; 3 children, Bobby DeWitt, Billy DeWitt (Kim), and Neil DeWitt (Jennifer); 7 grandchildren, Jason DeWitt (Leslie), Christopher DeWitt (Alexis), Taylor DeWitt-Berryman (Patrick), Tori DeWitt, Trenton DeWitt, Austin Shive (Morgan), and Jenna DeWitt; 6 great-grandchildren, Madelyn DeWitt, Lawrence DeWitt, Jolene DeWitt, Hudson DeWitt, Miles Shive, and Ryan Shive; sister, Jerry Daugherty; and a host of extended family and close friends.

A funeral service for Mrs. Emmy DeWitt will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 3 PM to 8 PM; and prior to the service from 10 AM to 11 AM, at the funeral home. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
